As a way to contribute to the preservation of the natural resources of the São Ludgero region, the Copobras Group launched in July 2010 the campaign “Used Oil Collection”. This campaign aims to motivate company employees to store their used cooking oil in PET bottles and bring it to the company. Then the collected oil is sent to the duly licensed companies that were responsible for giving a new use to this waste that, before, it was a social problem.
In the first stage of the campaign, that lasted a month, were collected 1.333 liters of used oil and, with the sale of this material, two new televisions were purchased that were installed in the employees' rest rooms. The rest of the municipality benefited from the environmental gain from the non-contamination of natural resources. That is, the final balance was positive for the collective; everyone somehow won. In addition to contributing to the reduction of pollution, this campaign served as a way to educate the population about the environmental problems that the incorrect disposal of this waste entails. The second stage of the campaign went beyond the limits of the company and opened opportunities for partners, creating other collection points throughout the city.
At the beginning of 2011, a third stage was started, with the campaign being extended to all units of the Group. Now the communities around all the units also have an alternative for the correct disposal of their used oil. So far the campaign has raised more than 3.400 liters of oil, that otherwise, could be polluting millions of liters of water. This campaign is coordinated by the EMC Program (Continuous Improvement Teams), that collect points per liter collected. The income from the sale of oil is reverted to the benefit of the employees themselves, at EMC’s events.
